My history matters. Like many children from 1950s-1970s, I am a survivor of Fleet Peeples-era exploitation. My 51-year lived history with sex work as a CODA from a broken home is not a joke, not a gimmick, and not a marketing angle. It is part of my story, my resilience, and my authority. Said experience makes me fearless. I have never begged any man to spare my life.
I prayed God would allow me to survive so that my death would not break Mother’s heart, God rest her soul. God forgive me for breaking her heart. I honor my parents, who did the best they could in 1970s Florida with the information, tools, and culture they had at the time. This work is not rooted in blame. It is rooted in responsibility, growth, and repair.
In today’s conflict culture, we fail to listen to one another. All things work for good, and I am grateful to have listened to and comforted several survivors of Fleet Peeples. We are not victims, but victors. We are men and women, LGBTQIA+, neighbors all.
If you survived Fleet Peeples, I urge you to document that with Orlando Police Department. Justice is an eternal struggle, and it’s in God’s hands now. Documenting this abuse will help provide data to LE and families so that authority figures are held accountable and innocent children are believed, supported, and healed.
I uphold the American values of due process under the law, but with Fleet’s death restorative justice is more my thing. Who knows what happened to this man to make him such a prolific pedophile in 20th Century Central Florida, but I do know what we can do to protect all children. Guard, listen, and guide them. Love them and cherish them, for they are our future, not a source of anxiety to be measured in monetary terms and their care outsourced. Let them discover their sexuality in due season with health in mind, and protect their innocence.
51 years later, show business is still personal for me—but it is always business. I respect each client, their confidentiality, and their privacy. Social media is just another form of show business, and mine is a tool for good.
